get some ideas from a wedding planner. I know you can't afford it but they have a ton of experience with all kinds of weddings.

$5000 dollar will stretch a long way. You just need to learn to shop around for bargains.
Have the wedding party at someones house.
Don't spend much money on catering and keep it to a simple cake. Then you need money for drinks. The big things are the tux and the dress.
But like i said learn to shop around for the cheapest things.
My wedding only cost $6000 dollar but that was including a partyroom

I think that this is a great idea! I plan on getting married this fall and am going to do the same thing. Although $5,000 is not a lot, it is enough. You might consider contacting a local wedding chapel. I know here they have small chapels that have 'plans' you can choose from and everything is included in the set price. Also, you might consider doing a small wedding in which you just have a few guests and then a larger reception where all family is invited to celebrate with you.

my aunt had a wedding and everything came up to 1000 dollars so its possible. have a ceremony in your back yard or at the park. and many have everyone bring a dish of food to serve. and that will save the cost big time. your soon to be wife and even shop at davids bridal who are having a 99 dollar dress sale. and you can save by doing your won cake on even having cupcakes and using yourown stereo for music.congrats on getting married

do some thing small were you could just be with all your love ones.
you could do it at home or you could just rent a small place were you wont have to make a big mess at some ones house.
If you are on a budget just have some of your family members help out. Like if you are going to make dinner too for the reception Just Buy some brisket marinate it in beer over night with meat tenderizer, garlic salt back it in the oven over night at 225 or 250 degrees. also could make some side like beens salads or pastas some roles and some drinks.

You need to decide if you want to get married now and have something simple or wait 5 yrs to have the big wedding. You can't have both. If you get married now, that will be your wedding and you don't get a second one to the same person.
If you want to get married now, you can go simple with dessert and coffee instead of a full meal. You can easily get married with $5000. It's all about priorities. You will have to cut out alot of stuff that most people consider traditional and enlist alot of DIY projects but it can be done.

You can have a nice wedding w/ $5K. We had our wedding out of town and still managed to be under our budget.
Where do you live? When are you getting married?
We got married on the beach only cost us $150 for the officiant.
You can find a park in your area to have an outside wedding or a beach if you are close to one.
Our cake was $150 from the grocery store...it was 2 tiers and able to feed 150 people..we only had about 75 there plenty of left over
I had artificial flowers...for my bouquet, maid of honor, flower girl and 2 boutonnieres for the guys cost me $175
We did get a deal on food. My brothers best friend own an italian restaurant so we booked the party room and had a buffet dinner we only paid for food and drinks no alcohol. $1000 again this was for 75 people and had tons of leftovers.
I did buy favors but this is not required I wasted money honestly no one took them.
We did buy gifts for our attendants...a bracelet for my maid of honor and a flask for the best man $100 they were engraved.
Invitations we got online from www.invitations4less.com they were wonderful to deal with
My mom paid for my dress so I did not have to worry about that expense.
We did not have a dj as it was only close friends and family. After dinner the wedding party and friends went out dancing instead.
As for pictures a family friend is in photoghaphy school she did our engagement pictures and all day at the wedding before and after for $500 (we did not discuss $$ we thought she did so well and sent her $500 she was more then appricative). You can either get someone from your family to do pictures or contact your local college and see if they have any photoghphy students who would be interested.
