Default How much did you/are you spend on a wedding photographer?

I know it mainly depends on where you live... but I live in the FL Panhandle and it seems that the average is about $1,400.
We're having a small ceremony and reception of about 50 people so I think that's a little ridiculous....

It depends on what you are getting for your $1400. That's pretty average for an average package deal from most photographers where I live, in Kansas City. And, photography is the only thing that the price isn't based on how many guests you're having--the photographer is going to spend about the same amount of time shooting regardless, and will probably take the same number of shots no matter how many guests you have.

Remember also, photography is the ONLY thing that will last beyond your wedding day. The food gets eaten, the flowers fade and die, the tuxedos are returned and the dresses are in the closet, but the photographs are the 1 thing you can take out whenever you like and have all the memories of your wedding day come back to you again. Good photos really do last a lifetime, so I would spend as much as you can afford to spend on them. You won't regret it in the long run!

i live in Brisbane and we are spending 2500.00!!
we are also only having a small wedding with 57 people coming!
but i would rather spend alot on the photographer as it is up to him to capture the photos of your special day that is only going to happen once!!

if you want to go cheap then you get what you've paid for!!
but i would rather spend abit extra money and get great pics that i can look back on and be glad that we spent that little extra money!!

I AM a wedding photographer in Charlotte, NC. I recently did a wedding with 40 guests. The package that they bought was 5 hours on the wedding day, 1 hour of the rehearsal dinner, 2 8x10's, 4 5x7's, 20 4x6's, 1 bride's book (with 60 pages) and 2 mothers books (with 40 pages), cd's with their pictures, and free online viewing for $1,000. I took 1,857 pictures and I edited every single one of them.

It all really depends on what you are getting in your package and how much time you want with your photographer.

Good luck and congratulations.

I am also having a very small wedding. We will be having a photographer for the ceremony and for outside photos only. For the reception we are going to be giving people cameras to take photos for use to save on the cost.

After getting this suggestion from other posters, we are hiring two photography students to do our wedding for $250 plus gas and food. Just like you, we only have 30 guests and I really didn't want to put a ton of money into photography, but I did want a non-guest doing the photography. I contacted the local community college and the guy who teaches the class (I had him as an instructor 20 years ago!) knew several people to recommend. Both will be doing photography and helping each other with equipment. We will then sign releases for them to use some of our photos in their portfolio.

Anyway, this is an option for you. Way less cost, helps an aspiring photographer and you own the photos. BTW, make sure that at least one or two portrait photos are done with real film, not a digital camera. If all they do is digital camera, find someone else. As good as the digitals are today, and I love them, I've found that enlarged photos leave much to be desired.

Wow, photographers are really charging a lot lately.

My boyfriend does all day photography:
- Getting ready
- Leaving for place of wedding
- Wedding
- Pics after wedding
- Reception & all that comes with it (dinner/1st dance/cake cut/flower toss/garter toss)

for $800 and that includes 200 photos printed and placed into a nice photo album and all of the pics that he took on a disk!!!

Winnipeg, MB!
