Default What flowers can I have at a winter wedding?

My FI and I are pushing our wedding back from a year and a half away to two years away (for financial reasons).

The problem with this is that we'll now have a January of February wedding (at the beginning of 2011).
We're from the Chicago area so both months are verrrry cold! I know that buying in season flowers save money, but what flowers could we get in the winter time?

In the beginning, we were going to have a brown and blue May wedding with blue hydrangeas, but I am open to changing our color scheme.

If you're doing February, you could go for a Valentine's themed wedding, in which case red and white roses would be absolutely gorgeous. I've seen some very nice wedding photos that were done in the winter... I love the cloaks most of the girls seem to get - white floor-length, with fur-edged hems and hoods (faux fur, I imagine...). They turn out to be absolutely stunning, even though it's so cold this time of year.

Good luck :)

Blue hydrangeas will be available. Hot house flower available most all year. White accented with blue, silver and brown could be branches incorporated in your bouquet and centerpieces. Think winter wonderland and go with it for ideas. Or, you could always do silk. If you are thinking Valentine's Day, flowers, venues, everything seems to get more expensive during that time.

Have you considered downsizing your dream wedding to fit into your budget and financial constraints to keep your May wedding.

Good luck,

why? blue is perfect for the winter.. and have it snow themed! how cute! hand out snowflakes for the favors.. like, book marks or ornaments..

mums are always available.. and lilies.. lots of white, diff colored lilies.. and you can paint or color the flowers.. use bright bows. roses get really expensive around Valentines, so be careful of using them.. and Gerber are as expensive in some markets! my florist told me they were more expensive in the Portland, Oregon area than roses!

asian lilies..or star lilies are very popular for weddings, and so many colors to choose from.. and you may find that narcissus and a few early spring flowers will be available, maybe iris, and you can have blue flowers that way!

i found one page of all sorts of flowers by the month, just google flowers in season for january and february, and you will get more links!

Mums, lilies, roses, daisies....hydrangeas should still be available as well.

I had Asiatic lilies, stargazer lilies, dark pink roses, deep orange roses, and stephanotis in my bouquet. The bridesmaids had Asiatic lilies and dark pink roses in theirs.

Just a word of caution, if you are getting married close to V-day, the cost of flowers, esp. roses, skyrockets. Be prepared to pay a higher price.

As far as finances, if you haven't already, you may want to open up a savings account aka 'wedding fund'. Then pick a set amount of money to be put away from each paycheck, and stick with it. This is what my husband and I did, and by the time our wedding rolled around 17 mos. later, it was paid off (by us!) and we had money left over to spend on our honeymoon.

Best of luck and congrats!

I think winter weddings are gorgeous with creamy beiges, wine burgundies, deep sage and anything that sparkles or glows.
