Default Decorating for a wedding reception?

I'm getting married in April and I'm having my reception at the local community market. I had planned on using white tulle to drape over the ceilings and then hanging turquoise chinese paper lanterns UNTIL I went and measured the inside of the building Saturday. It is bigger than I thought... 80ft x 60ft! Here's my question...does anyone know where I can find tulle really cheap since I would have to use so much or should I just decorate with hanging baskets of flowers instead?

See if there's any textile manufacturers in your area, and call them asking if they'll make a deal - if you're buying a lot of fabric, especially of one kind and colour, they'll generally try to make you a deal. Another option would be, instead of hanging tulle all over the place, make little sort of mini-swags all over the place, kind of like you would with the lanterns, or something like that, and alternate them at points with the lanterns.

Good luck, and congrats :)

I think that you should use fabric. You can generally get this in large amounts if you go to whole sale place. Don't waist your money on this high item thing because you will never use it again. If you decide to use the tulle only go ever other row and use an accent fabric for the other rows. A really nice shiny fabric would look great with your turquoise lanterns. Good luck and best wishes.

A few months ago I found rolls of tulle in the party section of my local dollar store - they were 60ft x 1ft so I had to overlap a bit, but for $1 each you really can't complain!

maybe you should only decorate over the tables like over the cakes and then over the dance floor. That would save you some. also if you decorate the tables ( dinning and serving) with center pieces they will not even notice the ceilings.

Anderson's Prom or Stumps Prom Supply will have great prices. The lanterns if grouped together will be really nice. What about a renting a tent for the market and decorate with your lanterns. I am assuming the community market is an outdoor venue. The tent would also offer protection from the weather. Another idea is speciality lighting. Having visual focal points with special lighting drawing one's eye sets up allusions. Also portable fountains or waterfalls.

Depends on your budget and how much of the set up you or your family can do to cut costs determines what you can do. Your idea of the baskets and flowers will work, but I would add some lighting for the WOW factor.

try doing like.. drapes of the tulle.. if there are smaller windows.. or making room dividers to put on the sides of the walls.. but i wouldn't drape the entire room.. that is so much fabric! look online in your area, there are fabric places that sell in bulk, and they may give a discount for that massive an amount, but you are looking at huge money being poured out!

you would do better with lanterns and candles.. glassware in the colors you want. flowers of sorts.. glass vases filled with colored glass stones.. things like that! it's easier to put up and clean up, not so expensive, and you don't have to worry about those people spilling and such. what of fish in the bowls with rocks? let people take them home with them.. and the lanterns.. very asian! use big paper umbrellas.. they cover space, nice colors available.. light, easy to hang!
