Default Has this happened to anyone at a wedding?? Girls?

I'm watching My Fair Wedding, and EVERY bride when she goes to get brides maids dresses, she picks the ugly or less pretty one because they don't want them to show her up? The brides are wearing the huge white ones and they are the ones getting married!

I have not picked out the bridesmaids dresses yet but I know I will not pick out ugly ones on purpose to make them look ugly. I cannot afford to buy the dresses so since it is their money I want them to have something they can wear again. I have not decided yet, but I may end up having them choose any black cocktail dress they want so they can feel comfortable and pretty too.

I'm watching it too, and I wondered the same thing! I hope not. I want my girls to look georgeous with me, but not like a sex kitten.

I've only got my Maid of Honour to worry about, and we found her a GORGEOUS halter-style dress that really suites her. I don't want my best friend in an ugly dress on my wedding day - it would make the pictures look like crap and my friend would've resented me for it. So, better for her to look good, and I just get myself a more ornate dress :) And, since it's already paid for, I already know that's happening ;)

I was my sister's Maid of Honor and she kept trying to put me in these amazing dresses. I actually had to tone down the dress and go with something simple because it was her day, not mine. Anyway, I've been looking at dresses for my bridesmaids and I've decided to go with separates, they can pick whichever style top they want but I've picked out the color and skirt.

Brides like that disgust me. Your wedding party is for support, help and encouragement, not to make you look better.

I told my bridesmaids to pick anything they want in black - a dress of any length or a skirt and top or anything they wanted. They know what they will look best in, and I don't want my best friends to feel uncomfortable. My wedding dress will be lime green, so I don't have to worry about standing out ;)

I was in a wedding once that used the same color scheme but had the worst array of different dresses ever. It's not that the idea wasn't good because I believe it's a good way to make the girls look and feel comfortable. The problem was that the dresses didn't match the body type, so one bridesmaids dress line was way to low while the other maid was wearing too much material. I know the concept that you should try to downgrade the maids dresses in order to not one up the bride, but sometimes this concept is taken too far lol :)

I'm not engaged, but I vowed to my best friend never to put her in an ugly bridesmaid's dress. I never understood the point. But, then again, I think some bride's are blinded and really don't see that their choice is horrible and ugly.

I would want my bridesmaids to look like a million dollars. They're going to be in my pictures and in my album for years to come. I would hate to look back and realize I made them wear something totally unflattering.

My best friend is a bigger girl and I told her that when I get married, I'm going to pick black bridesmaids dresses, so that everyone would be in a slimming color. She was like, "Thank You! I love you for that!"

I'm letting the bridesmaids pick their dresses. I have some guidelines, just cause we will be in a church but other than that its free roam. I don't want anyone to be uncomfortable and this was the best way to do so.

My bridesmaids were so intent on selecting a dress for themselves that they didn't think was ugly that they almost drove me crazy!

I want everyone in my wedding photos to look good. I know that just because I'm the bride & the one in the big poufy dress that I and my fiance will be the focus of the day. I don't want pissy-looking bridesmaids because I picked an ugly dress. However, if my BM's thought the dresses were ugly I think they would have told me they won't be BM's if they had to wear a particular dress they felt was ugly.
