Default Would it be rude to want to spend time with my new family on my wedding day?

Like instead of having a huge to do afterwards we spend a bit of time with people and then have guests leave and he and I spend time with his parents and daughter? There won't be any rushing to the airport to catch a plane to a honeymoon getaway. We've talked about just staying the night at his parents since we're having the wedding there. Or is a reception and such a big deal?
He and I haven't been together long but believe me when I say sex is the last thing on his mind.

Whoever is invited to the ceremony needs to be invited to a reception immediately following. If you don't, that is considered rude. If you only want to spend time with his family after the ceremony, then don't invite your family.

that's your big day and you should spend it however you feel like it! If you want to spend the night with his family then do that.
And if later in the future you regret not having your friends around you can throw a big after wedding party and invite them.

You could compromise by having a short champagne-and-cake reception after the wedding instead of a huge to-do, allowing everyone to mingle and give you their well-wishes. If your "reception" is just an hour long or so, the guests can go home leaving you with plenty of time to spend with your family.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to spend the night at your family's house after the wedding. There will be lots of people there to share memories with, help you with after-wedding duties, and generally help you chill out and relax. Some people need to realize that the all-night raunchy sex-fest honeymoon doesn't necessarily appeal to everyone, especially if you and your fiance have been together for a long time already. Best of luck!

That's simply called not having a reception, or a ceremony only affair. If you don't want the long reception, just have punch or champagne and desserts afterward for a couple of hours, and go enjoy time with the family.
