Default Would you renew your wedding vows on 5th anniversary or just have a party for anniversary?

We got married with out the family or friends attending. We had been married before and husband did not want formal wedding which was fine. Now im thinking that it would be nice to renew our vows on our 5th anniversary. Husband does not like to entertain and is not keen on the idea of renewing vows since only been married for three years. Should I have a 5th anniversary party and after the party take a vacation and let go of the vow renewal? I just want to celebrate our marriage with our children and family.

We stopped the "party thing" after the first anniversary ! And no, the marriage is not on the rocks ! :-)

Vow renewal is usually much farther along in a marriage. If it's still important to you after a few years, let your husband know and let his input count.

It's your anniversary and you can do whatever you want as long as your hubby is comfortable with it. My husband and I are having a 10th anniversary wedding and doing it all over again for the people who didn't get to attend the first one...that and the fact that we had so much fun! I love weddings and am glad my marriage is a good one to a good man! Good luck with your plans!

I personally think renewing vows is pretty tacky, as when you take the wedding vows, you take them until 'death do us part'. I think its nice to have maybe something like a renewal (but not exactly) at the 25 year/50 year anniversary. 5 years is really nothing to celebrate. thats just my 2 cents

I agree with joshsgrl. It's your wedding and you should do whatever you are comfortable with. I don't think renewing wedding vows is tacky at all. It's a reminder to each other how committed you are to that person. Normally, most people renew their vows further down the marriage road, but it's never too soon!

I'm all for doing whatever makes you comfortable. I personally like it when couple's do this...I know its supposed to be "forever" the first time. But with the divorce rate over 50%...celebrate your love if you have made it that long!

Have a party...set out photos from the wedding. Take lots of new photos so you can get an album made online! Then set THAT album out on your 10th!

I had albums made for my wedding, the honeymoon, and my sister's christening invitations done at the same place!

As a special surprise, I actually got all the members of the wedding party a house cleaning! I looked for a Seattle house cleaning company with good review & arranged for gift certificates!
