Default Why do women place a non wedding band or ring on their left ring finger?

Are they trying to fake people out to make them beleive that that they are with someone?

Maybe they just want guys to leave them alone.

Yes. Nobody does that who is not trying to give the impression of being married. I used to do it when I was waitressing, it helped fend off a lot of persistent and drunken flirting by customers.

My boyfriend got me a $3 mood ring and I wore it on that finger. For me it was just because I know he is the one and he knows I am the one and I thought the ring he gave me should have a special place. Since then it has been replaced with my white gold promise ring but it's still for the same reasons that I placed in on my left ring finger.

strangely enough I have a beautiful ring that only fits my left ring finger (my right finger is slightly chubbier!). So I wear it on my left ring finger. I think sod tradition people who know me know im not married (although in a relationship) and I don't care if strangers think im married or engaged as it doesn''t matter what they think.

well not all women do

any thers many reasons

1) they dont want men flirting with them, so if they wear what looks like a wedding ring when they go clubbing, men leave them alone.
2) its just a finger, not everyone wants to get married so should they be banned from wearing rings on one of their fingers?
3) just because they want to, or it looks nice.

It could be the only finger the ring fits.

I have arthritis in my right hand, so none of my rings will go over my knuckles. If I get the ring sized for the knuckle, then it'll be too big once it gets over the knuckle, and it slides around all the time. I LOVE rings, so I wear them...on my left hand though because it's my only option.

my great aunt did that although she never was never married.. Her reason was so that if someone was bothering her and decided to follow her home, they would see the ring and think she had someone at home waiting on her and that usually made them leave her alone.

Some do that as a form of protection.. A woman who lives alone with a toy poodle has an increased chance to get attacked then someone who has a room mate/spouse.
