Default I have some wedding questions?

Our theme is Scottish/French/Creole Southern Elegance. Our colors are sapphire blue, black and white.

Some background: My fiance has Scottish ancestry and was born and raised in Quebec. I was born and raised in New Orleans. Both of our birthdays are in September and I have a sapphire and diamond engagement ring, that's why we want it as a wedding color. Black is to make easier on my bridesmaids but I'm not sure if black and blue would look good together. What do you think?

We're both living in Mississippi, my family still lives in Louisiana and his family still lives in Canada. If we have the wedding in Louisiana and his family makes the trip down who pays for their stay?

He'll wear Highland dress. We want bagpipes for the ceremony and a jazz band for the reception. A creole/ cajun menu. Aside from all this we're a little stuck. Is there anything we can add that we may be forgetting?

What about flowers & decorations?

his family will pay for their expenses to be at their sons wedding; if they can't afford the expense, then you and your fiance will have to pony up....CONGRATS, this sounds like it will be a beautiful wedding!!!!!! Black goes with anything......add some other colors to the flower arrangements....

black and blue could work well together. Other color options could be sapphire and gunmetal (deep silver).

Flowers... I'm thinking for the southern elegance you could do mason jars or mint julep cups with mums and roses on cocktail tables or you could do white roses and other white and blue flowers in some unique urn type vases tied with a ribbon that matches FI's highland attire, which I think would be a plaid fabric. If floral budget is tight, you could go the rose petal and candle route too!

Decorations - I really would do much other than flowers, candles, place card/escort holders. I'm the type of bride that would rather put money into chair covers and linens than a bunch of cheapy decor, but to each his own! Oh and be careful with confetti or stuff like that because some places will charge for clean up.

I say let the cajun in to your menu, unless you can find a flor-de-lis (spelling) motif you'd like to incoroprate into everything.

In terms of whos to pay for travel, I think you should discuss that amongst the family to determine what's best or how it can be worked out.

Hope these ideas help!

As long as you go with a bright royal blue, as opposed to a navy blue, it will look fine with the black.

Let's see... how to incorporate some more Scottish and New Orleans elements... well, you've got the bagpipes, jazz, kilts and food... I think another thing that would be really pretty as decor would be to incorpoarte some wrought iron, like the French Quarter balconies: http://www.inetours.com/New_Orleans/images/Blcny/Balcony2.jpg You can often pick up old gates and parts from porches people have torn down at salvage yards, and if they're rusty just spray paint them black. Set them up against the walls at your reception site, or use smaller pieces as part of your centerpieces. Also, you might consider incorporating a few symbols like this scottish one: http://www.historicimpressions.com/230L.jpg and a fleur de lis: http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/1921743/2/istockphoto_1921743_fleur_de_lis_9_variations.jpg which is a french symbol, in the form of rubber stamps. Stamp them on your programs, napkins, favor tags, etc.

How about incorporating a subtle nod to Mardis Gras with masks (http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/search/processRequest.do?No=0&D=masks&Ntt=masks&Ntk=all&D x=mode%2bmatchallpartial&Ntx=mode%2bmatchallpartia l&N=0&requestURI=searchMain) and beads (http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/shared/sharedFlowController.goToBrowseController.do?&requ estURI=viewEndecaCategory&categoryId=378440&sp=tru e) ? They'll be pretty and bright as centerpieces and people can have fun wearing them, and take them home as favors. It won't matter if they aren't in your colors. If everything else is bright blue and black, those will be the colors people see the most of.

Magnolias (the state flower of Louisiana AND Mississippi I think) and thistle (the national emblem of Scotland) should be in your bouquet! Maybe even incorporate some maple leaves to represent your fiance's Canadian roots.

Black and blue will look fine. If you want, add green to it and use black watch tartans. My husband and I had a Scotch-Irish themed wedding for our ancestry. The groomsmen wore black watch tartans, and the bridesmaids wore rich cranberry gowns. We had a bagpiper play for the men and a harpist for the women. For the wedding favors, we had harvest knots. For decorations, since we were married in late October, we had pumpkins! The florist carved them out and filled them with ivy and holly. They were beautiful and guests loved them! For the flowers, we had day lilies, irises, bells of Ireland and ivy. My husband had a white flower of some kind with holly trim. (Ivy is good luck for the bride, and holly is good luck for the groom).

Sapphire Blue - is it the really dark one or is it closer to the shade of the Scottish flag? the blue of the flag is very easy to get in bridesmaids dresses at the moment and it looks great with both black and white. as to flowers how about Violets and Jasmine? that would be blue and white flowers and climatically appropriate

You should definately include the plaid from his kilt in your wedding. Why not get fabric that will match his kilt and use it as a mock ribbon to tie your flowers?
Also...the tartan can be used as ties for your chair covers. This site has ribbons and fabric galore!

A little creole? Why not pick up a bunch of Mardi Gras beads from Orientaltrading.com in colors that are fun and festive...blue and black. Some may think it's corny, but what a fun and simple way to decorate the table with color when you have a pool of beads spread out. People can also use them as favors. While there is more to Louisiana than Mardi Gras...how fun would it be for your out of town guests to get the full experience.
Maybe some fun masks, too.
Add some of the Canadian!!! Maybe a maple cake as the groom's cake? Or have maple leaf shaped cookies, frosted in his family plaid colors and wrapped as favors!
Good luck! The colors sound great and the wedding should be SO fun!
