Depending on the popularity of the time you're getting married about a year. I like to get things done early.

Depends on the date for example is it on Valentine's day or Sweetest Day??? generally a year but if it is a special day or date go with a year and a half.

Ask the specific places that you are interested in.

You might be able to get better prices by booking early, since prices often go up.

Well it really depends on where you live, but I think 8 months is a safe bet. I booked mine 6 months in advance just because I was having trouble finding something I liked, and we had to change the date considerably because it was already booked up. We live in the Chicago area though, so some places book up YEARS in advance. Most of my friends said 8 to 10 months was fine for them.

Depends on the site and time frame. May is right in the beginning of the "wedding rush" so the earlier you book the better. I would start seriously looking at places now and have it booked by oh....January or February of 2009. Plus, if you book now, you will get this years pricings on the venue before they most likely increase for next year.

Usually you want to find a place about a year in advance. Especially if you plan to get married during the most popular times like spring or summer. Since weddings usually take place on weekends and there are approx. 52 weekends in a year, places do tend to book up fairly fast. I booked our place a year in advance and only got my date because someone cancelled for that day. Since we got married in May all the other weekends were booked.

Sooner the better. That way if you find something else or if anything were to happen you might be able to talk them into giving your money back being that it's so far in advance.

The places we like open their books for all of 2010 in December of 2008. We plan to be reserving as soon as it starts because we know the date we want and don't want it going out from under us since we know both places we plan to use are popular. We are also doing May '10.

Call your venue and ask them. Alot depends on your venue's policies, your metro area, etc. Places where I'm at in Ohio don't let you reserve more than a year in advance, yet I'm sure places in bigger cities like New York are probably taking reservations now for weddings in summer of 2010.
