I had the same predicament of yours, after attending everyone's wedding for the past 3 years and finally having mine, all the ideas were "taken" LOL!. I really struggled finding things that were different... to include vows , as I didn't want anyone to feel as I was imitating them or something.

-I had a harpist for my wedding. It was a nice touch, very elegant and diferent

-I had orchids as my flowers... everyone else did roses or gerbera daisies or cala lilies.

-My bridesmaids wore different style dresses. They picked their own

-My husband walked my down the aisle. I did not wanted to be "given away".

- I had no flower girl, no ring boy, no unity candle, no guest book, none on that!

-My place cards were actually capiz shells with the name on my guest. Instead of table number we used names of places that we frequented.

-We used a photojournalist. Most of our picture were candid and artistic..they are fantastic.

- I wore a vintage veil for my wedding. I considered also doing without or to wear a birdcage veil and/or a fascinator.

- I did not throw anything to anyone at the wedding

My wedding coordinator have never seen flowers like mine or a cake like mine. I designed my menu cards and place myself and my coordinator has asked me to give her pictures because she wants to show it to her brides because she has never seen nothing like it before and she does that for a living!

I think is hard to escape the wedding vendor trap and do things like everyone else. I had a really hard time getting outside the box and find something original.

Good luck

The best most memorable wedding I attended(besides my own) was to an older couple that had been married previously. Everything they did during there wedding was so funny. They didn't let on that everything was planned so we all thought it was an accident. They had the unity candle go out a couple of times during the ceremony and they had to relight it. They had a guest come into the ceremony late holding a fancy shot gun and asking if he was at the right place. The bride tripped walking down the isle. Everything was so funny.

First, I'd like to say that I would LOVE to see Blunt's wedding photos! Your wedding sounds beautiful :)

Second, I haven't been to many unique weddings, unfortunately. BUT, I think the best weddings don't do traditions for the sake of doing them. I think so many brides do the bouquet/garder toss, wear the veil, etc. just because that's what they think they have to do. Many traditions don't translate into today's culture, so I think it's silly when the bride walks down the aisle in a veil covering her face, or throws the bouquet.

Just be yourselves, and it will be a unique wedding.

The last one I went to have a dessert bar instead of a wedding cake.

My husband and I got married on a house boat out on the lake. I wore flip flops and a short white dress. He wore black slacks, a white shirt, and flip flops. We had people there that we barely even knew. And when they said do you take him to be your husband I said, "HECK YES I DO!!!"

It is an amazing time, I don't think I have ever felt that way before.
