Default Wedding music - I'm not a fan of the wedding march?

I'm marrying an American (I'm an Aussie). I really don't want to walk down the aisle to the wedding march simply because I don't like it. He is insistent upon it because he said it's an American tradition, and every wedding he's been to has it.

Well....every wedding I've ever been to in Australia, the bride has NEVER chosen it. My question is, is it socially unacceptable in the US not to have the wedding march? Personally - I think he is worried that his family will think I'm weird if I don't 'be traditional'!
Hehehe you're a smart lady gastonkitty!

With 85+ cousins, friends, my husbands family etc, I think it would be safe to say I have been to over American 100 weddings in the last 3-4 years. Only 2 brides chose the wedding march. The most popular was Pacabel's Cannon in D.

No you can choose whatever you want. In fact the Wedding March is NOT the most popular selection anymore. It's Pachelbel Canon in D.

Here is a great website with music clips to help you choose, I'm sure you will find something:

Check out processional options at site above.

In the US, one just selects a processional one likes (and meets your venue's requirements, of course). For example, some churches will only permit religious music to be used.

Pachelbel's Canon is very popular.

Actually many American wedding ceremonies do not have the wedding march but instead have Pachelbel's Cannon. This is beautiful and traditional.

Your fiance's information is wrong. Plenty of weddings in the U.S. do not have Wagner's wedding march. Jewish weddings especially do no use it, b/c Wagner was a known anti-Semite. A very popular wedding march here is Pachelbel's Cannon in D Major. I used it at both my weddings.

My husband and I walked down the isle to Your Guardian Angel by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus ... I don't know what kind of music you like, but it's a beautiful song and we got a loooot of compliments! I don't know anyone our age that has walked to the wedding march! Sure, it's a tradition - but be unique and start a new tradition. This is 2008! Good luck hun!! And congratulations! ;)

is he saying that only because every wedding he personally has been to has had the weeding march?I am sure that not everyone in the USA has had the wedding march, there must be loads who haven't as well! personally, i agree with you, i am not keen on the wedding march either, it may be traditional but it is very dated now and many people choose their own song now. I assume that you are getting married in the USA? if you are and he is insistent on having this, could you not compromise and say that he can have the wedding march, but as you leave the church you want a song played that YOU have chosen? if you are marrying in australia then it does not matter if you don't have the wedding march because its not so traditional there. another thing is, if you have not actually started planning you wedding yet as such, why don't you get married in a different country altogether? would you both be happy with that instead? then you can chose something different altogether. A lot of people go to other countries to get married these days. I live in the uk and 18 months ago we got married in the Caribbean, and it was Absolutely wonderful. i hope some of my idea's have helped, and good luck.
