I would say definitely make sure there's music at your wedding - nothing sets the mood better. Making a CD is a perfect, budget-friendly alternative if you have a good ear for music and an idea of what your guests will like. Sometimes DJs are better at "reading" the crowd and playing appropriate music at appropriate times, but personally I don't like the banter. The less announcements and pointless chatter the better, I say.
